The Discovery 3 retained many of the key features of earlier models. The stepped roofline and steep windscreen were maintained but cross-linked air suspension and Integrated Body Frame technology advanced the brand considerably. Engines were taken from Land Rover's sister company at the time Jaguar and developed by Ford/PSA.
Richard Hammond, former presenter of Top Gear, described the Discovery 3 as the "Best 4x4 of all time". The Series III was praised by the press in general, specifically the improved interior design, Terrain Response system and a vastly improved on-road driving experience.
A facelift model arrived in 2008/2009 with improved in car entertainment and body-colour bumpers, but marketed as Discovery 4
