The Land Rover Freelander which has since ceased production after being replaced by the Discovery Sport
, was introduced in 1997 as a compact sport utility vehicle (SUV).
Produced in both 2 wheel drive (2wd) and 4 wheel drive (4wd), the Freelander
and it's 2006 successor the Freelander 2
easily outclassed it's competitor's in it's off road ability even though it could not match up to it's bigger and more experienced counterparts like the Discovery
and Range Rover
In it's height of popularity, the Freelander
became the best selling four wheel drive model in Europe until 2002 and still remains as a popular second hand four wheel drive vehicle.
